in-house laboratory and testing

Laboratory tests are conducted for the diagnosis of the disease or other health conditions. Blood, urine, or other tissue samples are tested for checking about the disease. A technician or a doctor checks the laboratory tests. Laboratory tests give information to the doctors about the health condition of the patient. At Wendover Primary Care, we provide in-house laboratory and testing for quicker results.

Following are some of the tests that are conducted at the laboratory:

Pregnancy Test

Though pregnancy tests are conducted at home, laboratory tests confirm the news for the parents. A pregnancy test informs whether you are pregnant or not. Tests check a particular hormone in the blood or urine. It particularly checks for the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). It may take woman one or two weeks to develop the symptoms of pregnancy. So, a woman has to wait for one or two weeks for confirming the news.

Besides the pregnancy test, there are many other earlier pregnancy tests. These routine Lab Tests are the following:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Urine Culture
  • Blood Type and Rh Factor
  • Urinalysis

These routine lab tests are conducted for checking conditions that increase the risk of uterus complications and fetus.  Thus, these problems are cured during the pregnancy so the woman can deliver the baby normally. These tests are conducted in the first trimester.

Pregnant women are also tested for the following diseases in early pregnancy:

  • Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B
  • Rubella
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Tuberculosis
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections

Rapid Strep Test

This is another common routine test that is carried out in the hospitals commonly. Rapid Strep Test is a rapid throat swab. Rapid strep test detects the existence of the group A streptococci. Tests assist in the diagnosis of bacterial pharyngitis, which causes strep throat. There are different techniques that are used to conduct a rapid strep test. Each method employs its distinctive technology.

Urine Dipstick

This is another laboratory test that checks the abnormalities present in your urine. A dipstick is similar to a plastic stick that has strips of chemicals placed over it. This dipstick is used for the detection of abnormalities in the urine. Chemical strips of the dipsticks change their colors if any abnormal substances are present in the dipstick. Thus, a urine dipstick check is conducted.

Urine dipstick checks the pH levels of the acid present in urine.

A1c Test

This is an A1C test that showcases the average blood glucose levels of an individual over a course of 3 months. This test is also referred to as the hemoglobin A1C test, glycated hemoglobin or glycol-hemoglobin test, or HbA1c test. Hemoglobin is a part of the red blood cells that send oxygen to the cell.

The normal A1C blood level is 5.7%. If the A1C level is above 5.7%, it indicates pre-diabetes. If A1C has higher 6.5% levels, it indicates diabetes. It is suggested to every individual to get the A1C test done routinely. It gives you confidence that you are doing well.
